Maya Carves was born from love for mountains, rocky landscapes and the raw beauty of nature.
All stoneware pieces are made entirely by hand. When looking close you will be able to observe and enjoy charming irregularities in each piece.
Inspired by traditional Japanese yunomi and chawan teaware, some vessels have been made from a solid block of clay. Giving them their initial form, they are then hollowed out, hand trimmed and textured to achieve an aesthetic that echoes the raw beauty of rock formations.
All of the ceramic functional and decorative wares are hand built, using different techniques like pinching, coil building slab building and kurinuki.
I create my ceramic pieces with an artistic vision, rooted in tradition but twisted with a modern edge. Born by the Black sea and later enchanted by the mountains, I draw my inspiration from my love for the outdoors, the outdoors culture and my passion for rock climbing.
